A quick glance through any of the international trophy records for species such as Red Stags, Water Buffalo, Fallow Black Buck and Axis Deer will quickly demonstrate the exceptional quality of Trophy Hunting available in Argentina and your estate, La Colorada is the source of numerous South American and World Record examples.

The estate combines a variety of hunting environments from Estate Deer to ‘Free Range’ hunting over vast unfenced areas circa 10km x 20km in size providing sporting Hunters the opportunity to walk-and-stalk, drive-and-spot or wait in hides and high seats for their choice of Trophy animal. Hunting is conducted in the spirit of fair chase and having stalked this region personally I can assure you that the species within the stock fences are just as elusive and difficult to hunt as their free-roaming neighbours!

Species available include staggering Red Stags where hunters can elect to try for everything up to Gold Medal trophies and beyond, with ‘Top Ten’ stags of staggering proportions available should that be your goal. Fallow Deer of the same quality abound, as do Blackbuck, Axis Deer, Wild Boar, Cameroon Goats, Dall and Multi-horned Sheep, Mouflon, Water Buffalo, Feral Goat, Somalia Ram, Brocket Deer and Capybara. There is even the occasional Puma and we are delighted to announce that we have 10 export licenses for Puma for 2012, but we can only sell them once folks and we've not had any of these in over 5 years!.

We have found that while some clients are purists in terms of specialising in either wing or big game hunting, many enjoy both disciplines and therefore if you would welcome that variety during your visit, again that is possible as we have some excellent Dove and Perdiz hunting available with 20 minutes drive from the main lodge facilities.

In terms of accommodation, La Colorada boasts five self-contained chalets comprising of two double bedrooms, each of which has two double beds and en-suite facilities complimented by a comfortable lounge area should you prefer seclusion from the main guest lodge.

The lodge itself has satellite TV for those that want it, Pool Table, lounge areas and dining facilities together with a bar area and balcony which overlooks a sprawling pasture and water hole. Game species visit throughout the day and can be observed from the sun deck at your leisure.

The hunting environment is challenging as Craig Boddington will testify since he too visited this estate before endorsing it for the American market and personal experience proves him right. The Estate is forested with Calden Trees similar to those found in Southern Africa as well as dense thorn bushes called Piquillin and Sombra de Toro or ‘Bull’s Shadow’ trees, which is ironic since this is exactly the foliage that the many free-range Water Buffalo prefer to reside in. So thick is the bush that long trousers and gaiters are essential, especially since the thorns are complimented by sharp grasses and spiny burrs which delight in making life uncomfortable for the unprepared visitor!

It would seem that the indigenous Channar Tree takes the hardest beating since the local Red Stags use it almost exclusively for removing their velvet and damaged shrubs abound and yet the estate can be traversed via a network of essential fire breaks over which the various species can be seen crossing and traversing the estate. It was on one such fire break that Roo had his first encounter with a ‘Hooge Poomer’ which approached to within 8 paces before deciding him to be unappetising, such is the wild and unspoiled nature of this superb environment.

When you consider that Red Stags and many of the other ‘exotics’ to be introduce into Argentina were released only 30 miles from La Colorada back in 1909 then you’ll come to realise that this is the very heart of Trophy Hunting in Argentina. In terms of hunting experience, attention to detail, service, courtesy, quality of food and appointment of guest facilities, we’ve visited and experienced enough locations to know what ‘good’ looks like and La Colorada is definitely Argentina’s premier Trophy hunting location, bar none.

The estate is located some 7 hour dive from Buenos Aires International Airport and as such, overland transfers are not really an option. Mid-week flights of about an hour’s duration depart from Buenos Aires’ domestic airport once a day to nearby Santa Rosa although no flights are scheduled for weekends. The estate is approx 30 minutes drive from the local airport and transfers will be conducted by the Estate staff both at Buenos Aires and the local airport too.

Charter flights are another option but we would recommend your visit be scheduled carefully unless you would welcome some time to explore Buenos Aires before or after your hunt? It’s your holiday and your adventure so we will be delighted to provide further assistance and advice should you wish for it.
